Family member applauds Kentwood staff for their care
Atmosphere and programming make Kentwood the home of choice, says family member

Brenda Moreton says in the year and a half since her mother moved into Kentwood Park she has received excellent care and is involved in more social activities now than she has been in a long time.

The two things Moreton says she likes best about the Picton long-term care home are the family-like atmosphere and the programming available to her mother, 89-year-old Helen Jarvis, through the life enrichment department.

Having worked in a long-term care home for nine years, Moreton knew what types of things a home should offer residents and was selective when helping her mother find the right place to live.

“When I see and hear how mum is doing at (Kentwood Park), there is something family-like about it — the staff just seems to go the extra mile,” Moreton says.

Moreton adds that her mother “always looks great” when she goes to visit her and that staff members at the Picton long-term care home spend as much time as they can chatting with her.

Moreton says staff members in the life enrichment department have also been supportive of her mother. She adds that her mum enjoys participating in the home’s activities.

Moreton applauds the staff members for encouraging her mother to keep active in the home.

“They have something going on all the time and mum needs that,” she says. “She is doing things there that she never would do on her own. . . . They always involve her.”

Jarvis is also happy with life at the home, notes Moreton.

“She says that (she is happy) many, many times,” Moreton says. “She says, ‘The girls here will do absolutely anything for you.’”
