SELBY -- From more fresh fruit to stew-filled
bread bowls, residents have had some new choices
on the menu at Village Green this past year. The
Selby long-term care home’s nutritional
care manager Mary Cloutier meets weekly with a
committee to discuss matters pertaining to meals,
including food preparation. Mary established the
pleasurable dining committee when she joined Village
Green about two years ago.
The pleasurable dining committee was created
to brainstorm and assess outcomes in nutritional
care. The committee’s work covers everything
from creating desirable-looking meals, to nutritional
care and dining room seating. Discussions are
also had about what’s on the menu.
“Recently we’ve been offering more
fresh fruit on the carts,” says Mary.
“We tried bread bowls – they quite
enjoyed it,” she adds.
Mary says one of the highlights of the year for
the dietary department was hosting the supportive
measures graduation in March. Staff and managers
from several OMNI homes attended the event, at
which employees accepted diplomas for completing
the training.
Dietary aides prepared fancy fruit trays, bringing
in utensils from home that helped add to the presentation,
and served dip in hollow peppers.
